- History: Kouichi was born in a quiet little town at the base of a mountain. His mother, very much alone due to the recent death of his father, did her very best to raise him on her own. When Kouichi reached school age, she realized that it would be better if they lived in a city, closer to schools, and so she packed up, took her young son, and moved to Tokyo, where she could get Kouichi the best schooling possible.
Kouichi was a bright child, excelling in school as well as taking kendo classes after school, though even as a little boy, he was quiet and reserved, not actively seeking friendship from anyone. Shortly after entering fifth grade, a new boy joined Kouichi's class and wound up attempting to engage Kouichi when he was placed next to the studious child. Predictably, Kouichi pretty much ignored the red-head, letting the boy get help settling in from the kid on his other side.
The young red-head, thinking of it as a challenge, continued trying to get Kouichi's attention though, until a little over a week later, when Kouichi got himself into a fight with several sixth graders who'd been picking on a much younger boy. Naturally a rather small, skinny boy, Kouichi was getting beaten up pretty bad in place of the second grader when suddenly a blur of black and red practically flew in, fire-truck red ponytail like a flag as the taller boy took out the sixth graders one after another until they were all fleeing from the younger boy. As soon as they were gone, the boy then turned on Kouichi, fussing over him and dragging him off to tend to his wounds before the blue-eyed boy had a chance to figure out what was even going on.
After that, Kouichi and the red-headed boy, who's name was Tsuchihara Yuuki, were pretty much inseperable, becoming close friends very fast. No one really understood it, not even the two boys, given that they were almost complete opposites. They stayed best friends through grade five, and then grade six, heading into middle school together where they completely baffled all their teachers with their friendship. Kouichi was the model student with perfect grades, perfect atendance, and never getting into trouble, where Yuuki was practically a delinquent, always getting into fights, though his grades were decent, which the school attributed to his friendship with with Kouichi.
The two of them just got closer as middle school went on, Yuuki confessing a crush on Kouichi shortly after the start of eigth grade. Kouichi, who'd been crushing on Yuuki as well, was naturally thrilled. They hid their relationship for a while, sneaking about for dates, and basically being a little on the ridiculous side about it for the entire school year before deciding to tell their parents during summer break. Kouichi's mother was the first one they came out to, knowing already that she supported homosexual relationships. Of course, she was happy for them, but gave the boys the 'birds and the bees' talk, naturally embarrassing the two of them completely.
It was a couple days later before they came out to Yuuki's father, who wasn't surprised at all that his son was gay, having suspected the relationship almost since the start. Both boys were surprised by this, Kouichi managing to spill tea down the front of his shirt. Yuuki, being a good friend (not to mention good boyfriend), quickly offered to let Kou borrow one of his shirts while he washed Kou's shirt. Kouichi accepted, letting the red-head drag him off to his room, where Yuuki started digging through his dresser for a shirt that would fit the smaller, slighter boy. Kouichi meanwhile, set to getting his soaked shirt off, draping it over the back of Yuuki's desk chair.
His back to the red-head, Kouichi didn't notice Yuuki turning to face him until the sound of fabric hitting the floor caught his attention, causing him to turn. Yuuki's face reflected surprised shock, and Kouichi couldn't help but ask his taller friend what was wrong. The response he got surprised him as well, and Kouichi was instantly trying to look over his shoulder to see the 'tattoo' on his back. Not able to see anything, no matter how he twisted or turned, he finally turned back to Yuuki with a confused look on his face, saying that he didn't have a tattoo.
Yuuki's expession brightened at that and he was suddenly dragging his shirtless friend out into the livingroom, forcing Kouichi to show his back. The rest of summer passed in a blur of lessons about a secret world of fighters and sacrifices. Kouichi was a sacrifice, though his fighter was apparently nowhere around. Yuuki, a blank, spent the next year trying to convince Kouichi to take him as his fighter, to have Kouichi carve his name in him. At first, Kouichi was reluctant, waiting, and not wanting to hurt Yuuki, but eventually, he caved and agreed, taking the time to carefully etch his true name into Yuuki's back, though he was a little too careful, the process taking many attempts to get it to scar. The first attempt however, revealed just how masochistic Yuuki was, taking the pain and then taking Kouichi's ears in return. Naturally, Kouichi's mother was not happy and the boy, just turned 16, was forced to wear fakes to school, though he didn't protest.
Their time in school passed like a breeze with not much else happening, and when they finally graduated, they both decided, with Kouichi's mother's approval, to move Yuuki into his much larger place, Kouichi finally ditching the fake ears as he went on to a tattoo school with Yuuki encouraging him to focus on his art instead of kendo. Yuuki, on the other hand, was set, the intention being to take over his father's dojo, where he already worked as an instructor. Given that Kouichi's place actually was closer to the dojo, the move was just as much for his convienence as getting to live which his partner and lover.
Kouichi was half way through his last year of school when something happened to change the dynamics of his current life. His true fighter showed up. However, given that he was happy being Yuuki's sacrifice, he turned the woman away, stubornly refusing to have anything to do with her after she insisted on taking the roll that she felt to be hers. Thinking that was it, Kouichi continued with his daily life, not even bothering to mention the meeting to Yuuki until a month after he finally graduated and got a job at a local tattoo parlor. Yuuki, of course, was happy that Kouichi had turned the woman away, but still he worried. What if she came back? Kouichi just shrugged Yuuki's worries off, saying that it didn't matter if she did. He'd just turn her away again.
He wasn't expecting her to return, but return she did. The summer after Kouichi's graduation, in the dead of night, shortly after the two men had fallen asleep, the woman reappeared, glaring at the room where the lights had turned off only an hour before. She'd seen /her/ sacrifice with the man that she was certain had stolen him. She'd seen his back through the open window, the scars were obvious. The man was a blank and had stolen what was hers. Silently, she walked up to the house, and snuck around, pooring gasoline on the walls under all the windows and against the front and back doors. If she couldn't have Kouichi, no one would. Once she was done, she trailed a little gas further from the house, then lit it, watching as the house slowly caught fire. Once she was sure the blaze would trap everyone inside, she escaped to a vantage point where she could watch only pausing a moment to throw the gas can through an open window.
Inside, Kouichi and Yuuki were woken as the smoke detectors started blaring. The two young men shot up in bed, instantly awake and trying to figure out what was going on. It didn't take them long to figure out, the heat of the fire that had begun consuming their walls being a huge give away. Realizing that they couldn't get out via their window as the fire was already too strong, they fled the room, trying to find another way out. By the time they realized all their possible exits were consumed by fire, there was absolutely no way to get out and that was when they realized that Kouichi's mother was missing. Sharing a look, they could only back track to her room, which was already immersed in flames.
They realized at that moment that the woman was probably already dead, and that there was nothing they could do for her. Yuuki, thinking quickly on his feet, rushed Kouichi into the bathroom, removed the cover on the bath and shoved Kouichi in, climbing in on top of him. It was the only safe place he could think of, hoping that it would be enough to protect them until the fire department arrived. More focused on Kouichi's safety, Yuuki wasn't protecting himself, and several pieces of burning wood fell on top of him, striking his back and neck, severely burning him before he could get them off, unable to duck into the water without forcing Kouichi's head under, the smaller already having enough issues breathing with the thick smoke in the air. All Yuuki could do was endure the pain of the burns and protect Kouichi, even as he was slowly losing to the smoke, ash, and fire stealing all their air.
Kouichi watched, horrified as Yuuki slowly toppled sideways, catching him before he could go under the water, though he wasn't fairing too well either, barely able to get enough air. The water was heating up, too, with the heat of the flames pressing in around them. Beginning to feel faint, Kouichi did the only thing he could, propping himself and Yuuki against the wall of the bath so that there was less chance of drowning if he were to pass out as well.
Faintly, he heard the sound of blairing sirans over the crackling of the flames and relaxed slightly, relief coursing through him as he began to lose the fight to stay awake. Another piece of burning wood fell at that moment, hitting the raven-haired man on the head, succeeding in knocking him out.
When he came too, it was to blessedly cool and clear air, an oxegen mask secured over his mouth and nose. With a groan, he asked about Yuuki and his mother, still too out of it to remember that they'd already pretty much confirmed she was dead. He was told by a sympathetic paramedic that his mother was already dead and that the man that had been in the tub with him was horribly burned and might not even make it to the hospital. This information succeeded in bringing him arround completely and he was soon struggling to get up. The parametic, of course, moved to stop him, not even having to really try as Kouichi spotted someone he hadn't been expecting. The smug, smiling face of a woman he'd seen only once before. Rage coiled in his gut, leaving him speechless as she grinned at him as if to say it was his own fault before smiling and walking away.
Ignoring his own injuries, Kouichi began fighting against the paramedics, ripping his mask off and screaming, though the fight went out of him pretty quick as he passed out, still suffering from all the smoke he'd breathed in while trapped in the house. It would be several months before he regained consciousness again with only a necklace as a momento of what he and Yuuki shared, blind in his right eye from the severe damage that had been done from the burns. Learning to cope with the loss of sight in one eye was the most difficult part of his recovery, as he found himself misjudging things quite often, but he learned. When he was finally released, Yuuki's father picked him up from the hospital, and Kouichi found himself living in Yuuki's old room.
Everything reminded him of his lost love, but he dealt with it in his own way, vowing revenge on the woman who took everything from him. He got himself a white wig, hiding his burn scars as best he good with the wig and hiding the fact that he was blind in one eye with red contacts. He took soon took up kendo again, using it as a method to better learn the limitations of his injury, as well as surpassing those limits. A year passed in this fashion, Kouichi growing more sure of himself before he finally went back to work, getting himself new tattoo equipment as all his old equipment was destroyed in the fire. It was painful, going back to things from his life before, but he ignored how bad he was hurting, turning it into fuel for his rage as he continued on with his daily life, all the time keeping watch for the woman that burned everything away. He would have her head if it was the last thing he did... even if it were to kill him. - RP Sample: See Lillian Arkany's application.
